The Flood Crisis is Over

After all the rain and floods it has finally come to an agonising end!!! Now the clean-up starts.

Over the past few days there have been scenes of absolute devastation throughout Queensland on television and in the papers ... and ..... out of all this heartbreak and sorrow heroes have emerged. Just ordinary every-day people who have had the gumption to do something out of the ordinary. Two that spring immediately to mind are the 13 year old boy who insisted that a helicopter rescue team take his younger brother first to safety. Consequently, the young lad lost his life as he couldn't hold on any longer. The helicopter crew is devastated but they are in no way to blame. They did a wonderful job with all the lives they saved. The 13 year old lad who lost his life should be nominated for a bravery award for showing that he has had the correct up-bringing and was in no way selfish. His mother also lost her life at the same time. Thoughts and prayers go to the father and the surviving brother in their sorrow.

The other is one of the helicopter pilots. He was interviewed on television and broke down when he told that he wanted to "Just save one more. But I couldn't." While he was out flying and saving lives, his own house was being inundated with the flood. The irony of it all. But it just goes to show that no-one is protected from Nature's fury. This man did his utmost to save lives and succeeded beyond all expectations, but in his own mind he wanted to save more. This task was humanly impossible. He should also be nominated for a bravery award as should his crew and many more people who ignored their own safety and did everything they could to save lives. Most of them are "unsung heroes" and they may never be known or recognised.

On a lighter note ..... I have begun the arduous task gathering data for the long-awaited beer stats. I have also decided to supply a very quick comparison of some soft drinks. My next blog will be my findings on taste testing soft drinks and beer.

I have spent many hours diligently tasting and documenting the differing tastes of soft drinks (only a couple) and beers. It is a hard job, but someone has to do it!!!!  I am also in the process of comparing beer strengths, carb content, sugar and salt content and value for money by breaking each brand down to a single unit. I won't explain this as it is even too complicated for me to fathom at the moment!!!!!!

In closing please spare a thought for beer drinkers in Queensland. The XXXX Brewery at Milton WAS FLOODED!!!!!!!!

  1. RIP Milton Brewery. May you be bought back to your former glory.

The sad part is that most of the Heroic acts will go unrecognised or even untold. Who knows what we would have done in the same situation. I would like to think I would be one of the selfless people but I really dont know. We dont know how brave we are until we are faced with a situation, we all make choices some right and some wrong but a choice is still made.
